LANView is a simple solution for network administration and management.
Features: LANView is a suite of tools for basic network administration tasks. The first task is one of network discovery, which is carried out easily with LANView, and it returns a list of IP addresses, MAC addresses, hostnames, users on the network, groups (and Workgroups) etc. This is done by the LAN Search utility. Other utilities include: Packet capture and analysis module; IP traffic generation for testing purposes; collection of IP statistics; monitoring of network connections; Port Scan; PING, and PING scan for each and every device on the network; and Windows Socket information and local information: each of these utilities is available as a separate tab, providing easy access to the desired utility. Each of these utilities also runs as a separate thread resulting in smaller resource overhead as well optimized performance on multi-core CPUs.
From a network management perspective it can be used for various tasks: broadcasting of important messages across the local network; remote shutdown and remote wakeup; finding a specified host; and performing SNMP audits. Report generation is simple in to TXT format and HTML format reports that include statistical graphs can be generated just as easily.
Overall: This is an excellent tool for hobbyists, network enthusiasts and to a limited extent for network administrators. Some network administrators may desire additional functionality as well as command line utilities. The user interface is a good one and it is fairly simple to get most tasks done (the fact that the utility tabs are on the left pane in a top-down feature is a great improvement other similar suiteās which put them up as left-right tabs that require scrolling; no scrolling is required here) . However, there is a limitation in terms of network visualization capabilities, as well as in which statistical information is displayed. As and when these improvements are mad this will become a 5 star effort.
